The art of a Mudroom

A shoe haven we walk through every time we leave and re-enter our homes. Some of us have them, and some of us dream of them. They see all the dirt and grimness of our adventures. And how do we treat them? Are they decorated, cleaned, maintained? Or have we forgotten to be grateful for the weight this room holds? The weight of the shoes, coats, and maybe even the laundry machines. A welcome home? I hope! Many of us neglect the main entrance to our homes. Why do our guests receive elegant entrances while we walk through haphazard shoes and coats that we hurdle to enter our safe oasis? The solution: make it beautiful.

Step 1: Clean. From top to bottom, this space requires regular cleaning and maintenance. Who knows how long we let these places go before we remember that they serve us best when we survive them?

Step 2: Organize. What is the flow of the room? Where do you put your shoes, coats, hats, etc? Map out an efficient flow to facilitate smooth movement through the room.

Step 3: Decorations. A fresh coat of paint for new beginnings? New (to you) storage pieces? Something as simple as a mirror or painting hung on the wall? Whatever it looks like for you, make the space something you’ll look forward to stopping by on your journey back home.

Whether small or large, this space serves a purpose. It is not as important as a kitchen or bathroom, but it is still a space we visit multiple times a day. Make your life easier and take care of the spaces that take care of you. And remember, they can’t take care of you if you don’t take care of them!

Here is my photo dump of my favorite mudroom inspiration. All these photos are not mine. I have pulled them from Instagram.

Love, Birdie
